Simplicity Stands Out /// Gray Thompson Ambassador Interview

This fall, I got the chance to spend some time on a longer format conversation with Karakoram Ambassador Gray Thompson.  Gray has been crafting works of snowboard culture for quite some time now.   His Warp Wave projects were a favorite  of mine back when I was looking for inspiration to hike around on a snowsurf around Lake Tahoe.   His latest project, Range of Mystery,  is just wrapping up a well received premiere tour.  The film documents his adventure alongside Karakoram Ambassador Nick Russell and Danny Davis  to travel beyond the known.   Gray has an effortless style to his turns, a healthy

Splitboarding in the Indian Trans-Himalayas

Summer Splitboarding the Indian Trans-Himalayas A Glimpse of the Karakoram Range Words: Simone Le Grand                       The land of high passes (also called Little Tibet) fascinated me straight away when I first visited Ladakh and Zanskar for trekking in 2013.  I was sure to return one day. The stunning landscapes, well-preserved culture, spirit and monasteries, and friendly, open and humble people had immediately a strong attraction on me.  This unique and still-remote place had caught my attention.   On one of my first treks back then, when climbing over a

The Outsiders

The Outsiders Words: Ian Wood Photos: Jordan Ingmire Get a copy in print from Diggin Magazine Japan or Transfer Magazine Australia     The sound of explosions stir me from a deep slumber. The bombs may be going off thousands of feet away but the blasts shake me from my dream world. Barely awake I sit up to investigate the violent action, bouncing my head off the bunk above. The “rude” awakening knocks me back down, a dry mouth from the propane heater running off and on all night reminds me where I am. Rubbing my eyes to adjust to

Morning carves at Alpental

Bryce and Tyler made it out of the office one morning last spring for some morning turns at Alpental. Nothing better than a little "product testing", a quiver full of Gentemstick powsurfs to choose from, and getting to put the bindings we work so hard designing to the test. We put a lot of focus on the words "Performance Snowboarding". For us, this is all about having gear that responds instantly, that has no lag in the system, and ultimately makes us feel more connected to the mountain. We spent a ton of time and R&D trying to figure out

Ian Wood Goes Quivering

Video: Sean Fithian Ian Wood is all about using less, yet getting more. His commitment to converting his truck to bio fuels, his efforts to minimize his overall carbon footprint, and his open-minded outlook have shown us he is someone that truly cares about understanding how his life impacts others and the environment. There are a lot of ways that snowboarding could improve from a sustainability standpoint. We're making steps in that direction, but they are baby steps, and we've still got a long way to go. It takes a long time to innovate, it takes a long time to
